2021: What Made Us Most Proud

At SMB, we are always looking forward: planning for the future, thinking about ways to solve our clients needs, and staying on top of ever-changing tax updates. However, we believe it’s important to look back and reflect upon our accomplishments and what made us most proud over the year. While we’ve accomplished much as a team in 2021, we’ve also had plenty of individual successes. From office celebrations to wedding anniversaries we wanted to share a few of those, if for no other reason than to memorialize them in a year that’s held plenty of uncertainty.

Our Favorite Moments as a Firm

  • SMB CPAs celebrated our 2nd year in business. We’ve successfully navigated challenges and have come away stronger than ever.
  • We started an intern program and have proudly employed our two interns for over a year. We’re proud of their progress and thankful to have them as part of the team.
  • We (big shout out to Catherine Nacy!) threw an epic post-tax season party where we threw axes and celebrated our success and hard work.
  • The SMB Team, in partnership with our officemates James Financial Planning, proudly supported Harmony House iCare day and donated proceeds from our gathering to their cause.
  • SMB CPAs attended Missouri State University’s School of Accountancy career fair.
  • We celebrated our team being 100% vaccinated.
  • We’ve added new team members and continued to grow in both staff and clients.
  • We worked hard, but still made plenty of time for fun.

Our Favorite Accomplishments From our Team

Matthew Blackwell: “I’m most proud of how we – as a firm – navigated and succeeded another year with Covid. Everyone at the firm worked hard to continue providing the best service possible to our clients in such a challenging time.”

Paula Lewis: “I’m proud to be a part of the SMB CPAs team! I was employed in the private sector of accounting and performing some Human Resource work for the last 14.5 years. I decided to make a change and challenge myself with moving over to the public sector. The SMB team has been great with helping me refresh the skills I learned at MSU all those years ago.”

Julie Gaines: “I enjoy helping people with their financials. A lot of business owners have a ton of things on their plate. The last thing they want to do in the evening is to sit down to do their books. That is what I am here for. I enjoy taking the task off their hands so they can focus on their business and have more family time. That, to me is an ongoing accomplishment!

Jacob Sanders: “On a personal note, I celebrated my first wedding anniversary! Professionally, I felt like my partners and I did a good job of continuing to lead this firm through the trying times of the pandemic. We were even able to bring in some new faces this year and grow our firm beyond our budgeted amounts. We are excited about what 2022 will bring!”

Brenden Schroeder: “I am most proud of all I learned and all the progress I have made working with everyone at SMB this year.”

Chris Myers: “I am most proud of our staff! They always seem to have a smile on their face and are always looking for a way to make the firm better. Celebrating 2 years as a firm in December and being able to adapt through the Covid landscape has been quite the accomplishment for us.”

Catherine Nacy: “I have a better understanding of accounting and more confidence in my day to day tasks. Since I don’t come from an accounting background, it is a personal accomplishment. My proudest moment would be throwing a post-season tax party and a Christmas party that the staff seemed to enjoy.”

We’re already looking forward to 2022, excited about our team and our collective potential to make 2022 the best year yet.
